1) Nawakadal Higher Secondary School happens to be first allopathic hospital in kashmir ( 1884)

2) First Gynaecological hospital

Dr Elizebeth Clark accompanying her husband , succeeded in setting up the first medical dispensary in the history of Kashmir in Srinagar, in May 1864 in a rented house & built
“Diamond Jubilee Zenana Hospital ” there which is now the site of the Government College for Women,

3)Maharaja Ranbir singh was against medical missionary set up in Kashmir as it would have exposed miseries of kashmiris under the most taxing & ferocious rule of Ranbir singh

4) Maharaja sent thousands of men and women protested their arrival, some even threw stones and threatened to set their houses on fire.

5) Robert Clark writes in his book “The house was literally besieged with men and noisy boys. They stood by hundreds on the bridge, and lined the river on both sides, shouting, and one man striking a gong, to collect the people.When I went to the Governor of kashmir to ask for protection,but he was not willing to help .

6) The police also announced that if any one rented a house to the missionaries, all the skin would be taken off their backs.

7) Clark medical mission led to huge success & led to formation of Christian medical mission ,India .
Elizabeth’s success as a doctor in Kashmir provided a “key” to Clark to unlock the minds of natives; subsequently he initiated the movement that resulted in the wide establishment of “Medical missions” throughout India
